The leader of the newly launched Working Group on Industrial Water Efficiency and Reuse Practices, Denis Bonvillain, represented Water Europe at the last stakeholder workshop of the 18-month evaluation of the Industrial Emission Directive (IED), on the 17th of December 2019.

During the workshop organised by the commissioned consultant Ricardo together with services of DG Environment, European Commission, consultants presented their initial findings. The final study is set to be done by February 2020.

Present at the meeting and chairing the workshop, the Director for Quality of Life in DG Environment Veronica Manfredi referred to the European Green Deal on climate neutrality and the zero-pollution ambition, and whether any changes in the IED needed to be considered. She also referenced the Regulation for agricultural water reuse.

Pointing out that the evaluation process was over for the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD), Ms. Manfredi added that the evaluations demonstrated that the Directives were fit for purpose. Regarding the UWWTD, Ms. Manfredi remarked that a revision is likely to occur.
