European Commission Unveils 2025 Work Programme: ‘Moving Forward Together – A Bolder, Simpler, Faster Union’

On the 12th of February 2025, the European Commission has officially published its 2025 Work Programme, titled ‘Moving Forward Together: A Bolder, Simpler, Faster Union’. This ambitious roadmap outlines strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the EU’s security, prosperity, and democratic values.

The 2025 Work Programme emphasizes unity and resilience in the face of pressing global challenges, including economic competitiveness, geopolitical instability, climate change, and societal resilience. It provides a clear framework for addressing these issues through bold, simplified, and accelerated policy actions.

Key highlight: the Water Resilience Strategy (WRS)

A major focus of the Work Programme is the upcoming Water Resilience Strategy (WRS), set to be announced in Q2 of 2025. The WRS aims to:

– Adopt a source-to-sea approach for integrated water management
– Ensure proper water management practices across the EU~
– Address water scarcity and promote sustainable water use
– Boost the competitiveness of the EU water industry

Other Strategic Initiatives include:

Ocean Pact (non-legislative, Q2 2025)
Common Agricultural Policy Simplification Package (legislative, Q2 2025)
Targeted Revision of the REACH Regulation (legislative, Article 114 TFEU, Q4 2025)
Clean Industrial Deal (non-legislative, Q1 2025)

These initiatives reflect the EU’s commitment to sustainability, economic growth, and regulatory efficiency, paving the way for a more resilient and competitive Union.
