As Europe moves towards a Water-Smart Society and a Circular Economy Act, resource recovery from wastewater is becoming a strategic lever — for nutrients, energy and critical raw materials.
This webinar brings research and industry into dialogue on where the field stands and what is needed to scale up across Europe. Yet despite a strong scientific base and a growing portfolio of full-scale plants, the journey from research to large-scale implementation remains uneven. Technologies, business models and regulatory frameworks are advancing at different speeds, and bridging the gap between what is technically possible and what is happening on the ground remains one of the sector’s central challenges today.
This Water Europe webinar, organised by the Expert Group on Resource Recovery, brings two complementary voices into a structured dialogue.
From the research side, Prof. Dr. Martin Wagner (TU Darmstadt, Institute IWAR) will share an academic perspective on resource recovery from wastewater and sludge, and on the scientific questions that still need answers.
From the industry side, Tobias Eriksson (Ragn-Sells) will share a practitioner perspective on what is being delivered today, what makes a recovery business case work or fail, and what regulatory and market signals would unlock the next wave of investment.
A moderated Q&A and open discussion will follow the two presentations, designed to surface concrete takeaways for policymakers, water utilities, technology providers and researchers across Europe.
