Policymakers, researchers, and leading water experts will convene online on June 25 to discuss preliminary findings from the EU-funded H2O4All project and the ZeroPollution4Water cluster. The event will focus on innovative strategies for securing drinking water quality by protecting water sources against pollution, preventing groundwater contamination, and addressing the challenge of Disinfection By-Products (DBPs).
A central theme will be a comparative analysis of DBP regulatory frameworks across the EU, Australia, and the USA. Participants will explore potential EU measures, based on a risk-based approach, to ensure safe drinking water while actively promoting the use of tap water.
The afternoon session will feature:
– Presentations on connecting people and data for enhanced drinking water quality by Maria del Mar Blanes (IRIS engineering).
– Insights into the DBP perspective from the USA by Kevin Letterly (Association of State Drinking Water Administrators).
– A discussion on safe drinking water production in the context of global threats, including climate change, and technological solutions by Irene Jubany Güell (EURECAT).
A key highlight will be a panel discussion, “How to face DBPs Challenges?”, moderated by Andrea Rubini, Director of Operations at Water Europe. Panelists will include Prof. Rui C. Martins (H2O4All Coordinator, University of Coimbra), with contributions anticipated from Claudia Olazabal (DG Environment, TBC), Margarete Remmert-Rieper (TUTECH Innovation, TBC), and Liesbeth Verdickt (De Watergroep, TBC).
This event represents a crucial opportunity to share significant advancements from our projects and to foster a collaborative dialogue on how Europe can best protect its drinking water resources.
