Learning from Extreme Flood Events: From Recovery to Future Preparedness

Climate change is intensifying the frequency and magnitude of flood events across Europe, posing growing challenges for water managers, utilities, and public authorities. In the past years Europe experienced several large flood events, two of these stand out and will be addressed during this webinar. The first is the flood event of July 2021 that hit Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands.

The second are the floods in Valencia in 2024. Both were caused by extremely high rainfall amounts that fell in a short period of time. In both cases, the floods were extremely destructive and full reconstruction is still ongoing.

During the webinar two invited speakers will reflect on the flood recovery process after the events, they will discuss what could be improved, and what this means for preparing for future flood events.
