The Shamrock Standard: Raising the bar for the Water Framework Directive

This year, Water Innovation Europe event is heading to Dublin, Ireland on 13 October 2026 under the theme of Raisin the bar for the Water Framework Directive. This year the topic will focus on implementation and how we can collectively make it happen. How can we stimulate actions towards a water-smart and resilient Europe to achieve the 2027 objectives ? Which priorities in the blue finance ? How to mobilise private actors to deploy water-smart solutions ? How can we measure and monitor progress in terms of WFD implementation ?

This edition aims to go beyond the current political context where the water acquis is under pressure through the Omnibus a packages, and the collective failure to achieve the WFD objectives by 2027. instead of pointed out to potential failers, let collective work towards solutions to achieve high environmental standards across Europe while ensuring our strategic autonomy and strengthening our competitiveness.

Each year, during the Water Innovation Europe Gala Dinner, five awards are presented to honour breakthrough solutions, technologies, and approaches with strong market potential and transformative value for society. These awards aims at recognising innovative solutions to pave the way towards the implementation of the Water Europe Vision 2030 “The value of water: Towards a Water-Smart Society” and ultimately realised the Water Resilience Strategy.
