Happening during Water Innovation Europe in Copenhagen, this edition of Water Projects Euroope brings together four pioneering Horizon Europe funded projects, FARMWISE, UniversWater, RAINS, and GEORGIA, each tackling critical aspects of water-smart agriculture through complementary approaches.

This year, we move to Copenhagen! Under the auspices of the Danish EU Presidency, Water Innovation Europe 2025 takes place on 27–28 October, placing the implementation of the Water Resilience Strategy at the core of discussions. As Europe faces growing climate risks and water stress, this event sets a new course where water security, climate resilience, and industrial competitiveness must converge.

Co-organised by Water Europe and the LUKE Institute, the event will dive deep into the ambitions of the EU Mission Soil, bringing together a diverse community of stakeholders to connect science, policy, and community action through the innovative Living Lab approach.

The iWAYS final conference, taking place on 28 June 2025 as part of SEEP, will convene stakeholders from policy, research, and industry to explore integrated approaches to heat, water, and material recovery in energy-intensive sectors. As a Horizon 2020 project supported by the A.SPIRE Public-Private Partnership, dedicated to advancing resource and energy efficiency in the process industries, iWAYS has developed practical solutions aimed at recovering heat, reducing water use, and minimising waste emissions.

As part of the 2025 WOLLs Webinar Series—designed to strengthen knowledge sharing, strategic dialogue, and alignment within the WOLLs Network—Webinar 2 will focus on Policy Innovation and Regulatory Sandboxes for Water Management. This session will explore how adaptive policy frameworks and regulatory sandboxes can unlock innovation in water governance. Participants will hear concrete examples from operational WOLLs implementing these approaches, along with insights into the financial instruments that support experimentation and policy development. The webinar aims to equip WOLLs with practical tools to navigate regulatory challenges and drive transformative solutions.

The H2OforAll project is set to host its concluding in-person workshop on June 26th in Brussels, convening leading experts, researchers, and industry stakeholders to address the critical issue of Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) in drinking water and present key project findings.

Policymakers, researchers, and leading water experts will convene to discuss preliminary findings from the EU-funded H2O4All project and the ZeroPollution4Water cluster. The event will focus on innovative strategies for securing drinking water quality by protecting water sources against pollution, preventing groundwater contamination, and addressing the challenge of Disinfection By-Products (DBPs).

In the face of mounting pressure to decarbonize, reduce waste, and reclaim critical resources, industrial sectors across Europe are undergoing a water revolution. The MEP Water Group is proud to announce it will host a pivotal event, “Water Challenge and Opportunities: Facing the Unknown,” on Monday, 12 May 2025, from 15:00 to 18:00 CET. This timely gathering, held at the Info Hub in the European Parliament, Brussels, and organized in collaboration with the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI), will bring together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to address pressing water challenges and explore innovative opportunities. A highlight of the event will be the special presentation and projection of the film, “Facing the Unknown.”

For its first time, Water Market Europe (WME) will take place outside Brussels. Join us on March 27, 2025, in Girona, Spain. The event will focus on how we can advance nature-based solutions for Water-smart cities. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are essential for addressing pressing water challenges, as they enhance resilience, improve water quality, and support the transition to climate neutrality and a circular economy.

Water Projects Europe event at AQUATECH 2025​ will cluster light-house EU funded projects working at the forefront of digitalization and innovation in water management. On December 10th, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM GMT+2, the H20forAll project will host a workshop titled “Preventive Measures and Management of DBPs (Disinfection By-Products).” The workshop aims to discuss preventive measures and practices to secure drinking water quality and mitigate drinking water challenges, such as the spread of DBPs, along the whole drinking water chain.

Water Knowledge Europe is the specialized brokerage event of Water Europe that allows you to network, to exchange knowledge and experiences, and to collaborate with key actors from across the water value chain. Combining expertise and brainpower, Water Knowledge Europe features a range of EU officials and experts who present the future funding opportunities offered by Horizon Europe for the water sector and providing guidance for the successful preparation of project consortia. This facilitates the setup of project consortia and the development of new project ideas at a European and international level. Participants have the opportunity to present their project ideas and discuss about them with potential partners in face-to-face meetings.

On October 21, 2024, Water Europe will host a pivotal event in Brussels to raise awareness and foster dialogue about the establishment of the new EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to the water, marine, and maritime sectors and ecosystems. This event intends to support the European Commission’s 2024 Water KIC call awareness campaign, highlighting Water Europe’s leadership in driving innovation and sustainability across these ecosystems to achieve a global Water-Smart Society.

Applicants for the Joint Transnational Call 2024, titled “Water for Circular Economy,” are invited to register for an informative webinar on October 2, 2024, at 13:30 (CEST). This online event will last two hours, hosted by the Water4All secretariat team, where you can learn about the call process and ask your questions. Water4All is excited to launch its third Joint Call for research and innovation projects, supported by 36 Funding Partner Organisations from Europe and beyond.

According to the latest report from the JRC Global Drought Observatory on Drought in Europe released in March 2023*, the impact of dry conditions on water resources availability this winter are already emerging in wide areas of western and north-western Europe and several smaller areas in southern Europe. In certain countries such as France, Spain, and northern Italy, these dry conditions are raising concerns as they follow similar patterns to the one observed in 2022 that resulted in extreme drought and impact on water supply and agriculture. Although the JRC Global Drought Observatory reports that “vegetation and crops at the beginning of the 2023 growing season have not been significantly affected yet, the current situation may become critical in the coming months if temperature and precipitation anomalies persists in spring.”
