The AquaSPICE project has released its final policy brief which comes to outline how innovative circular water solutions can be integrated into the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) through the revision of key Best Available Techniques Reference Documents (BREFs).
AquaSPICE demonstrates how advanced water treatment technologies, real-time monitoring systems, and digital twins can modernise:
– Waste water management in the chemical sector
– Emission monitoring from industrial installations
– Industrial cooling systems
The project urges the European Commission and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) to consider these results when updating the BREFs, ensuring the Industrial Emissions Directive continues to drive sustainability and resource efficiency across European industries.
