Dear Water Europe friends,
The world is facing multiple crises on several fronts. Across the Atlantic, the United States is going through the challenges of a new Trump administration. In the Middle East, the conflict in Gaza continues, while closer to home, the war in Ukraine persists. We are living through what may be some of the most turbulent times in recent history, with voices for investing in military defence growing louder.
Yet, in this time of uncertainty, one element, one factor, one truth remains certain and this is that there is no life without water, and there is no living without water. Water is not just a resource; it is the foundation of our survival, our economy, and our future. If we are to secure a sustainable and resilient tomorrow, we must join forces and invest in water.
This month, the European Commission published The Road to the Next Multi-annual Financial Framework, opening consultations to gather input on the future EU budget. The critical question is not only how we can secure the necessary funds but also whether we have the strategy and the plan to allocate these funds correctly. In July 2025, the European Commission will present its formal Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) proposal, setting the stage for pivotal discussions on the EU’s financial priorities.
In the meantime, on March 27th, we are hosting Water Market Europe 2025 in Girona, bringing together problem owners and solution providers to explore nature-based solutions for urban water management. As cities grapple with increasing water challenges, collaboration is essential, and this event is our tangible way to drive action by connecting the right people to shape sustainable solutions.
2025 is a crucial year, and at this defining moment, investing in water simply means investing in our future.
