Dear Water Europe friends,
As 2025 comes to an end, it is clear that this year marks a turning point. Water has finally taken its rightful place on the European agenda, not as a niche environmental concern, but as a strategic priority for our societies, our economies, and our security. This shift is not accidental. It reflects a growing awareness that Europe’s resilience, competitiveness, and stability are inseparable from how we value water.
For Water Europe, 2025 has been a year of tangible progress and collective achievement. Through our advocacy, collaboration, and implementation programmes, our activities have been particularly successful, demonstrating both the relevance and the credibility of our mission.
Stepping beyond Brussels for our annual events was a deliberate and meaningful choice. It reinforced our direct connection with stakeholders across Europe, while aligning strongly with the European Commission’s evolving priorities. Today, the water agenda is not only about building a Water-Smart Society, it is also about economic resilience, industrial competitiveness, defence, and security.
None of this would have been possible without people. I would like to sincerely thank the Water Europe team for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work throughout the year. I also thank our members and our nearly 300 Water Europe Ambassadors, a true army committed to driving change in the water sector across Europe and beyond.
As we look ahead to 2026, our focus must be clear and decisive. To turn the European Water Resilience Strategy into action, we must ensure that the necessary financial means are made available. The coming year must be the year when commitments are matched with funding. Let us also remember that resilience is not a destination, but a continuous journey. Water Europe stands ready to lead this next chapter, and we are ready to do it all together.
With this, I am sending you my best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2026!
