This week marked the official launch of the Water Wise EU campaign, a significant initiative aimed at uniting Europeans to “See Water Differently” and build a water-resilient Europe by 2050.
Europe is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world, and 70% of European citizens have expressed concern about water pollution and water scarcity. Water is vital for our economic activities, including manufacturing and food production, making water security, resilience, and sustainability top priorities for the next EU Commission.
With the EU Green Week launched this week, and continuing through autumn, it is now the perfect time to emphasize the critical need to:
-Address water as a stand-alone topic beyond the EU Green Deal.
-Finance our transition towards a Water-Smart Society with a Blue Transition Fund.
-Invest in collaboration, research, and innovation through Water-Oriented Living Labs.
Water connects us all and is a vital component of our continent’s economy and competitiveness. As we move forward, it’s imperative to demonstrate how much we value water by committing to these priorities and working together towards a water-smart future. Watch the campaign’s video.
