The Joint Programming Initiative “Water challenges for a changing world” (Water JPI) has a new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda which provides a framework for future Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) activities and European investments in the water sector, that amount to over 500 M € per year.
The WATER JPI SRIA presents the RDI needs grouped by thematic areas and priorities according to their scientific and societal importance. This document appears to be essential to develop the long term vision of this EU intergovernmental initiative and to implement the alignment of all RDI activities among member countries. It is based on the previous version released in May 2013 and was updated through a participatory approach, which has involved the members of the Water JPI Advisory Boards, many national experts, the strategic agenda of partnering initiatives, policy documents and foresight studies and the public through an on-line consultation completed by 630 people.
Focusing on tools and measures to provide effective solutions to these most relevant water challenges this SRIA intends to contribute to boost the competitiveness and growth of the European water sector.
