The highly anticipated Water Knowledge Europe 2024 (WKE2024) conference opened with a vibrant Water Projects Europe side event on the 1th of December 2024, dedicated to addressing the pressing challenge of PFAS contamination in the water-soil nexus.
One week after the release of the Water Europe PFAS paper, the session brought together experts and innovative EU projects, including SCENARIOS, PROMISCES, and Life-Source projects, to discuss monitoring, prevention, and remediation solutions. Presentations highlighted the urgency of action, emphasizing that Europe faces up to 20,000 suspected PFAS contamination sites, leading to severe psychological, economic, and social consequences.
”Only in Europe, there are up to 20.000 suspected #PFAs contamination sites” stressed the SCENARIOS, leading to significant consequences, including psychological stress, economic burdens, and social inequalities. Water Europe has recently released a new position paper on PFAS issue, click here to read the document.
This dedicated PFAS session set the stage for the broader discussions and networking opportunities at WKE2024, showcasing the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable water management innovations.
