With 68 votes in favour, the Committee ENVI have adopted the Report on the European Water Resilience Strategy, led by Rapporteur Thomas Bajada. This report moves us closer to a Water-Smart Society, where water is recognised not only as a basic need, but a strategic asset for Europe’s resilience, security, and sustainability.

Some key takeaways from the report are :

✅ Need to build a Water-Smart Society to ensure Europe’s competitiveness and strategic autonomy
✅ Support for water efficiency, resue and savings across sectors
✅ cross-border cooperation and WEFE nexus consideration✅ Dedicated funding for water resilience in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF)
✅ Support for Digital tools such as AI-powered tools like smart irrigation and real-time monitoring

💧 At Water Europe, we strongly support this initiative. These recommendations echo the core priorities we’ve laid out in our:

📘 Manifesto for an EU Water Strategy
📄 Position Paper on the Water Resilience Strategy

We look forward to the Plenary adoption in May and stand ready to contribute to a strong, ambitious Water Resilience Strategy for Europe.
