A new report by Grundfos, “Tapping into Solutions: Opportunities and Challenges for Industry in Europe’s Resilient Water Future,” outlines a clear pathway for turning the EU Water Resilience Strategy from ambition into action.

The report highlights a strong public and business mandate for urgent and coordinated water action across Europe:

– 86% of Europeans see freshwater shortages as a serious concern.
– 91% want governments to create the right conditions for sustainable water management.
– Over 70% believe circular economy practices and innovation are key to progress.

To accelerate progress, the report identifies five EU policy levers essential to strengthen Europe’s water resilience and industrial sustainability:

  1. Harmonised standards to unlock investment potential.
  2. Financial incentives and public–private investment to drive innovation.

  3. Strategic guidance to embed water stewardship into business models.

  4. Local collaboration to promote watershed-level solutions.

  5. Societal awareness to make responsible water use a shared priority.

This report serves as a timely call for joint business-policy action, ensuring that water resilience becomes a cornerstone of Europe’s sustainable growth.

At Water Europe, we share this vision — one where collaboration and innovation drive the transition toward a Water-Smart Society.” The Grundfos report provides a strong foundation for aligning industry ambition with EU policy goals, paving the way for a more resilient and circular water future.”
