Water Europe at ESA BASS Water Day: Connecting Water & Space

Share

Water Europe participated in the ESA BASS Water Day held on 12 May 2026 at ESA ESTEC in Noordwijk, contributing to discussions on the role of digitalisation, Earth Observation and space-based services in strengthening water resilience and supporting the transition towards a Water-Smart Society and Economy.

The event also marked the opening of the new ESA BASS call dedicated to the digitalisation of the water sector through the use of space data and services, to whose orientations and priorities Water Europe contributed in the framework of the ongoing collaboration and MoU between Water Europe and ESA.

The event, organized by the European Space Agency, brought together organisations and companies operating in the water and space sectors to explore how satellite data and digital solutions can support more resilient and sustainable water management by fostering the adoption of monitoring and decision-making solutions such as the Digital Twins. During the event, Water Europe highlighted the importance of connecting technological innovation with real operational and territorial needs, through the Water-Oriented Living Labs Network of Water4All.

Water Europe also supported the participation of representatives of three urban WOLLs of the Network (Lisbon, Attica Water Lab and Venice) showcasing territorial approaches and challenges to digital innovation and water resilience.
