[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Water Innovation Europe 2021 kicked off yesterday, June 14, with 460 participants and over 1000 following our live discussions through Water Europe’s channels.
Wrapping up the first day of the event, we gathered 5 key messages to take home:
✅ Sustainability is not addressed the same everywhere in the world. It really depends on the location we are. For this, we need to advocate for global harmonised policy rules. There is no need for identical rules but at least harmonised
✅ Water is local and commitments should be local, too. The local situation needs to be taken into account when establishing our water availability targets.
✅ Water data are often fragmented and in silos. Digitizing the water and making sure it’s credible, transparent and useful both to policy makers and the industries, is a very important step to support the other sectors.
✅ For the digital and green transition to happen as a twin transition that overcomes its challenges, we need strong collaboration and partnerships across sectors. We need open data sharing to have meaningful and actionable insights. We need to build sharing trusted platforms for data. Collaboration across the value chain and coherence are very much needed. This decade, we need to create these systems that will be the backbone of water positive after 2030 and beyond.
✅ European companies underestimate the water risks. We need to engage with them, and we need to continue stressing the importance of water from our different and separate perspectives to make sure that we are on our way to build a Water-Smart Society.
