Water Market Europe: a landmark edition with 100+ attendees

What an event! Water Market Europe 2025 was successfully held on March 27 in Girona, Spain, gathering over 100 participants from across Europe. WME2025 brought together, researchers, innovators and decision-makers to discover the MULTISOURCE project and tackle urban water challenges through Nature-based Solutions, featuring expert-led sessions and pilot in-depth presentations.

With over 74 pre-scheduled B2B meetings, this year’s event reached a new high in fostering real collaboration and business opportunities, offering a unique chance to connect research results with policy and market-driven impact.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from the Municipality of Girona, followed by a comprehensive overview of the MULTISOURCE project presented by Jaime Nivala, the project coordinator. Keynote speeches then explored various perspectives, scientific, technical, and socio-economic. “We need to reimagine our cities’ future,” emphasized Sergi Font, Councillor for Ecological Transition and Urban Area of the Municipality of Girona. Laura Wendling from SINTEF demonstrated how we can better connect cities with nature, while Ruben Fernandes from Águas e Energia do Porto offered a thorough overview of the urgent need to implement nature-based solutions (NbS).

Overcoming challenges through Nature-based Solutions for urban management

This session focused on facing real-world challenges through the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across diverse environments. Challenge owners from Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands presented their specific issues, while also highlighting the international approach on NbS.

From Pilots to Market: Showcasing MULTISOURCE solutions 

The third session explored the broader market potential for NbS innovations. Presentations from all the seven MULTISOURCE pilots highlighted practical solutions demonstrated within the project. Check MULTISOURCE pilots here.
