The AITASA Water-Oriented Living Lab (WOLL) is located in Tarragona, one of Southern Europe’s largest chemical and petrochemical hubs, a territory increasingly affected by water scarcity and climate change. Its mission is to improve water security and promote sustainable water management through innovation, collaboration and real-life testing.
The WOLL focuses on industrial water reuse, circular water solutions and the integration of alternative water resources. It provides access to pilot testing infrastructures, technical expertise, stakeholder networks and support for the development and validation of innovative water technologies. Key activities include evaluating the use of reclaimed urban wastewater for industrial applications and testing solutions that improve water efficiency and resilience.
The WOLL brings together industries, public authorities, research centres, universities, engineering firms and technology providers through a Living Lab co-creation approach. Future plans include expanding water reuse capacity, strengthening European collaborations and enhancing data-sharing capabilities.
The WOLL contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan and EU water resilience goals, creating environmental, economic and societal value through sustainable industrial water management.
