Day 2 of Water Innovation Europe has concluded yesterday. Under the theme Water Smart Industry for EU competitiveness and autonomy, speakers provoked an interesting discussion concluded with an Innovative Workshop “InnoWise Scale – Addressing the challenges through acting together against water scarcity”.
During the event, we announced the winner of the Water Infrastructure Award, assigned to the innovative solution provider Bioazul. Moreover, an exclusive joint declaration was signed between the Mayor of Mersin, Vahap Seçer, and Water Europe’s President Tomas Michel. Here are the 5 messages to remember from the main session:
✅ Involvement of all stakeholders in the European Commission’s revision processes is crucial because this is where, knowledge and inputs are shared from all perspectives.
✅ Solutions exist when we are ready to confront the problems in a collaborative manner. Collaboration requires a deep level of trust. Regulation is there but we also need to build good partnerships.
✅ To demonstrate societal responsibility, we need to share information. We need to invest in building awareness around data. Upscaling our workforces is also very important by training people to learn new skills and bringing younger generations on board.
✅ We need a centralized testbed for water technology. Living Labs are important to experiment with different problems across Europe. There are many different needs, but also common denominators that we can use to overcome the challenges.
✅ Water scarcity is a growing problem in Europe. 1/3 of Europe is suffering from water stress, 10million Europeans are directly affected by water scarcity. These data force us to act: To plan, to adapt, to change.
